Who We Are

Real Property Management DC Metro is a locally operated residential property management company serving rental property owners in Washington, DC and Maryland. We manage single-family homes, condos, townhomes, small multifamily properties, and long-term rental investments for owners who want professional oversight without losing sight of the financial purpose of the property.

Our work is focused on the core responsibilities that make rental ownership difficult to manage alone: leasing, tenant placement, rent collection, maintenance coordination, compliance, communication, and keeping the property ready for stable occupancy.

Built From Firsthand Rental Ownership Experience

BJ McKellar’s path into property management started as an owner. He bought his first rental property, a small duplex with long-term tenants, in his early twenties. Like many new landlords, he quickly learned that rental ownership is not passive. Maintenance, rent collection, tenant issues, and compliance details can consume more time and attention than expected.

For about a year, BJ managed the property himself while balancing a full-time job and a young family. Eventually, he turned the property over to a professional manager so he could focus on his work as a real estate professional and continue helping others invest in real estate.

The turning point came during the 2008/2009 downturn, after BJ experienced a significant loss on a fix-and-flip deal. A friend introduced him to Real Property Management, and he saw a path to build a lasting real estate business around helping landlords and investors manage rental homes more professionally.

Today, that owner’s perspective still shapes the company’s approach. Rental homes should be managed as long-term assets, not handled only when something goes wrong.
